Handheld Wirless Device Playing a Role in Communicatin Technology

A mobile phone (also known as a cellular phone, cell phone and a hand phone) is a device that can make and receive phone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographical region. It does so by linking to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone provider (Rogers, Fido and etc...), permitting access to the public telephone network. In difference, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a single, private base station such as Homes or Offices.

In addition to wireless device, current mobile phones also support a wide variation of other services for example: text messaging, MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) , email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications (infrared, Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer these and more general computing capabilities are referred to as “Smartphones”.
